How a minimalist piece is actually made
A minimalist object has nowhere to hide. There is no ornament to distract from a wavy edge, no bracket to excuse a crooked line, so the whole piece is judged on the joint, the radius and the finish. That is why everything here is made to order in our own workshop in Latvia, in the European Union, rather than bought in and rebadged — the same hands you see in the workshop stories on our blog.
The wooden shelf and holder bodies are built from a stable engineered core faced with real wood veneer (koka finieris) — oak, ash, cherry, walnut or wenge — with the cavity finished in a clean matte white. Veneer over a stable core is a deliberate decision: a wide solid board moves with the seasons and will eventually cup or split across a long span, while a veneered body stays flat and holds a crisp, uninterrupted line. Solid wood is used where the design calls for it, on plant podiums, phone stands and freestanding pieces.
